My Dad, the Gardener

Have I ever mentioned here that among the members of our family, it is my Dad who really has a green thumb? He certainly has a knack for planting and gardening that most, if not all, of the trees and bushes in our home was planted and grown by him. Having lived in the province in his early years and being a son of a true-blue farmer, my Dad can literally grow any kind of vegetable and fruit-bearing tree. It's actually very fascinating!

Anyway, now that my Dad has retired, he always spends his mornings doing gardening. He recently harvested some root crops, fruits and vegetables and gave part of it to us. Now I'm thinking that maybe I can send him several vegetable seed packets this summer so he can grow more varieties of vegetables in their garden. Or maybe I can also ask him to train me or even my daughter Zoe on the basics of gardening and turn our mini-garden at home into a kid-friendly garden. It's never too late or too early to learn, right? In fact, I've been noticing lately that Zoe may have a natural inclination towards plants and trees too. She always seems to want to help out in watering the plants in the morning and often asks me to get her a leaf or flower from the plaza whenever we go out. You'll never know, she might have inherited her grandpa's green thumb.

Do You Have a Green Thumb?

Do you have a green thumb? Well, so far, I think that I don't. There is an undeveloped portion in our backyard and a crumbling wall behind it that both need to have an overhaul. But I don't think I have the time, spirit and the energy to either start arranging it by planting some shrubs or plants in the soil or rebuilding that crumbling wall. And maybe if I do have the time, I am doubtful if ever the plants that I sow will ever grow or the wall will be sturdy enough to survive the rainy days.

If you are like me who's helpless when it comes to landscaping and other gardening activities, then maybe you need the help of a professional landscaper. For example, in Georgia, you can find the best people to do the landscaping job for you. For sure you can ask your friends and family for help as to referrals for good landscape artists. However, if you remain clueless on whom to contact, there is a Cumming Landscaper who is within your reach. All you need to do is to leave your name and contact details in their website and they will send you answers to your queries. You'll never know, you just might be having beautifully-arranged flowers and plants right at your very own backyard in no time.

Going Green

I was browsing through some pictures of celebrity homes in the internet during my lunch break and I find myself in awe on how beautiful their gardens are! I am just turning green in envy! Maybe they asked the help of a great San Diego landscaper to do the job for them. Their lawns are so neatly manicured and regularly maintained. Flowers of every kind and other nice plants also abound in their gardens. How I wish that we have that extra space at home to grow some more pretty plants and flowers like that!

What we currently have right now is just a small piece of land in front of the house. This one features our St. Francis of Assissi bird bath. The contractor we got is the actually a good one. They were able to execute the plan as designed by my Dad. Actually, the output even exceeded our expectations. My parents love this fountain cum bird bath to bits!

We actually have several gold fish in the pond at the bottom of the bird bath. I love sitting there in the mornings just waiting for some birds to go near and drink from the bird bath. Zoe also loves to feed the fish everyday that it has been customary for us to assign this chore to her. But of course, at her age, feeding the fish is far from being a chore! For her, it's something that's so much fun to do!

Anyway, when we get the chance, I am definitely putting up another garden in our backyard and I'm going to get a good landscape contractor to do the job for me.

Gardening Ideas

Don't you just love to have a nice place to stay and relax on beautiful sunny weekend mornings? Well, I've been yearning for exactly that lately. But I thought, why wait to build an expensive vacation house somewhere in the mountains to do just that? We can actually have a relaxing place to rest and snuggle up right in our very own backyard. One home and gardening idea which I could undertake is to build a pergola in our garden space at the back. Yes, I just realized that we still have about 30 square meters of available space which we could convert into a nice garden with a pergola. It would be the perfect place to get some sun. It could also be a lovely place to eat snacks, read a book or just take a nap. And it's so easy to build. Actually, we do already have a small pergola right in our front garden but our backyard space would be a better place to set up some garden sets and a mini-library or a nook for snacks.

I'll better talk to my husband and schedule this Saturday to do some gardening at the back to make way for the pergola. I hope it doesn't rain!
